  • FACULTY - MATHEMATICS - Teaching a variety of developmental and introductory courses in mathematics, including quantitative reasoning, calculus, and statistics. Creating mathematics program including determining course offerings, providing special problems classes, and managing correspondence-type courses. Managing all mathematics tutorial services including recruiting, training, and supervising tutors. Counseling and tutoring all mathematics students involved in both live and EdNet classes.

Utah Valley State College, Orem, Utah, 8/95-7/97

  • ADJUNCT FACULTY - Taught module-based assessment preparation course, fundamentals of mathematics, beginning, intermediate, and college algebra, and business, differential, and integral calculus. Taught 6 to 15 credit hours per semester. Developed knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques. Committed to employing collaborative learning in the classroom. Used TI and HP calculators to teach concepts in algebra and calculus.
  • MATH LAB MANAGER - Responsible for the development of a new math lab. Supervised 15-20 tutors. Responsibilities included: recruiting (on- and off-campus), hiring, training, and evaluating tutors. Created and conducted a tutor certification program that was CRLA certified. Directed computer tutorial services for the lab including selecting, installing, and maintaining tutorial software. Managed $30,000 budget.

Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, 9/90-7/95

  • ADJUNCT FACULTY/TEACHING ASSISTANT - 9/93-4/95. Taught intermediate and college algebra. Determined course content and policies. Advised, evaluated, and motivated students. Developed approaches for using computers to help students. Implemented a program that increased college algebra math lab attendance by 140%.

  • MATH LAB ADMINISTRATOR/INTER.ALGEBRA COORDINATOR - 6/95-7/95. Coordinating instructor for intermediate algebra. Main responsibilities included: determining course structure, teaching, and advising students. As math lab administrator: Supervised 50-60 tutors. Resolved concerns regarding math lab policies with tutors, students, faculty, and staff. Created and analyzed budgets.
  • MATH LAB ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT - 5/93-5/95. Taught large lecture sections of intermediate algebra. Directed unique group lab sections focused on applications and trained tutors to teach these lab sections. Rewrote all intermediate algebra exams. Reviewed and selected new texts for intermediate and college algebra. Scheduled all 50-60 math lab tutors resulting in nearly 1500 tutor-hours. Assisted in all math lab administrative duties.
  • MATH LAB TEACHING ASSISTANT - 9/90-5/93. Tutored students enrolled in intermediate and college algebra, trigonometry, differential, integral, and multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and ordinary and partial differential equations. Tutored 40 to 100 students per week. Developed excellent tutorial skills in working with students one on one.

  • Trigonometry - 4 semesters.
  • Applied/Business Calculus - 2 semesters.
  • Calculus - 4 semesters.
  • Statistics - 3 semesters.
  • Chess Basics - 2 semesters.

EDNET CLASSES - The following is a list of courses I have taught over the EdNet system to anywhere from four to twelve remote sites:

Math 1010 (1), Math 1030 (2), Math 1050 (1), Math 1100 (1), Math 2470 (1)

All of these classes included both traditional and non-traditional students, including concurrent enrollment students.


Research Interests
Mathematics Education including collaborative and cooperative learning. Numerical and Complex Analysis including Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations. Mathematics History and its uses to improve in-class instruction.

  • 4-5/98 Associate Degree Task Force - Ad-Hoc committee developed from the Strategic Planning Committee in which we discussed the best way to make the Associate Degree available to day, evening, and EdNet students.
  • 5/98 Nursing Selection Committee - reviewed candidates applying for admission to the nursing program.
  • 5/98 Student Orientation Committee - planned student orientation for Fall 1998 semester. Headed development and implementation of Rope Course (team-building).
