Professional Experience
1983-present: Member of science faculty, College of Eastern Utah, San Juan Campus. Instruct math, physics, chemistry, environmental, geography and geology courses.

Responsibilities include management of the science department budget, supervision of the science laboratory, hazardous waste officer, curriculum development, direct Summer Experience program and serve on various college committees.

1976-1982: Adjunct instructor at the San Juan Campus.
1972-1976: Adjunct instructor for Brigham Young University at their San Juan Center.
1980-present: Consultant on environmental analysis for Salt River Project (Navajo Generating Station), Page, Arizona, and performed stack analysis and data interpretation for three uranium mills (Energy Fuels and UMETCO in Blanding, Utah, Rio Algom at LaSal, Utah and Plateau Resources at Ticaboo, Utah).
1979-1983:

Supervisor of environmental, licensing and radiation safety departments at Energy Fuels Nuclear uranium mill, Blanding, Utah.

Responsibilities included the collection of environmental data, license changes with the Nuclear Regulator Commission, supervision of the collection of radiation safety data to protect the employees and preparation of semi-annual reports to the Nuclear Regulator Commission, Environmental Protection Agency and state agencies.

1972-1979: Project director for Ute Research Labs. in Ft. Duchesne and Blanding,Utah. We conducted air monitoring studies for the Environmental Protection Agency and power plants in Farmington, New Mexico, Page Arizona, Huntington and Ferron, Utah. We also conducted studies for proposed power plants in St. George and the Kaiparowitz Plateau in Utah. We operated 45 air monitoring sites for this study mostly located on
various Indian Tribes' land. We did a considerable amount of oil analysis for companies in Utah and Wyoming, water analysis for oil companies and the U. S. Forest Service, oil shale analysis for companies in Utah and Colorado and stack analysis in many western states for various companies.
1971-1972: Graduate Research Assistant at the Center for Thermochemical Studies, Brigham Young University. Worked with leaching of minerals from tailings at Kennecott Copper Corporation.
1967-1971: Graduate Teaching Assistant in the chemistry department at Brigham Young University
1964-1967: Employed by the National Park Service at Timpanogos Cave National Monument, American Fork, Utah.

Related Professional Experience
1987-1989 Research project at Page, Arizona for the Salt River Project (Navajo Generating Station Power Plant). This project surveyed all businesses, schools, offices and 40 % of all homes in Page and 30 miles surrounding Page to determine amount and types of energy sources being used. We then calculated the possible amount and types of emissions that might be produced. We used students from the San Juan Campus to help conduct the survey.
1980-1998 Consultant and collection of data for stack emissions from stacks on uranium mills. The data is used to insure compliance with state and federal regulations.
1981-1993 Operated a cloud seeding program for the state and North American Weather Consultants in Grand and San Juan counties to increase moisture during the winter months.

Service to College of Eastern Utah and Others
  • Have directed and taught in the Summer Experience Program for 18 years. This is a six week summer program in which a group of students register for a block of classes. Some of these classes lend them selves to involve outdoor instruction and activities. We try to travel to sites in the four corners states to complete these activities. The block of classes contain some science, humanities and usually photography or first aid. We always include a river trip on the San Juan River.
  • Developed the hazardous waste program for the San Juan Campus and
    completed certification for hazardous waste management.
  • Have taught many EdNet classes in math, geography and chemistry.
  • Participated in the development of environmental classes with Mesa Community College in Grand Junction, Colorado. This was a group of small Native American Colleges directed by Meas College and was funded by the National Science Foundation.
  • Directed three grants from the Department of Education Minority Science Improvement Project (MSIP) at SJC for the benefit of improving science and math instruction and providing science equipment. These grants have totaled about $500,000.
  • Have served on many committees at San Juan Campus and Main Campus.
    These include:
    • Budget committee-SJC- several times
    • Peer Evaluator for many faculty members-SJC
    • Severed many years on the student financial appeals committee-SJC
    • Served on several selection committees-SJC
    • Chairman of the math and life science instructor selection committees-SJC
    • Judge at regional science fairs in Southeastern Utah and Southwestern Utah (Cedar City)
    • Judge for several Sterling Scholar Contests
    • Have participated in many San Juan Campus student and faculty activities including beautification projects, student dances, river trips, dinners, parties, etc.
    • Direct the student chapter of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society. We have attended many regional and national meetings. Have had many local activities.
    • Have served on the College Senate three times-CEU
    • Have served on the College C and I committee two times- CEU
    • Serving on the Faculty Senate-CEU
    • Served on the administration evaluation committee for the Board of Regents-SJC and CEU
    • Served on the Bureau of Land Management Advisory Board for 5 years.
    • Helped with many scouting, church and community activities
